Fitting Your Lenses

If you look at your current frames, you’ll see 3 numbers stamped on the inside. These tell you:

  • Lens width—the horizontal length of each lens.
  • Bridge width—the distance between the lenses.
  • Temple length—the length of each temple (arm) starting at the hinge.

Our opticians will measure these distances for you and can recommend the right type of material and style of frame.

Fitting Your Frames

Fitting frames is important for both comfort and vision.

Having an optician measure your frames for accuracy is essential for making sure they provide the clarity, comfort, and style you deserve.

Where your glasses sit in front of your eyes is a crucial part of your frame fit. When looking straight ahead, your pupils should be in the centre of your lenses, and your glasses should sit below your eyebrows.

Your glasses should sit on your nose with the weight balanced evenly over the nose piece. You should not experience pinching, sliding, or marks left long after you remove your glasses.

Your glasses should sit just flush with the skin of your temples but should not cause pressure.

Your glasses should sit above your cheeks, not resting on them—even when you smile.

The arms of your glasses should reach behind your ears and rest comfortably—no pulling, pinching, moving around, or tugging.

Pupillary distance is the distance between your pupils. The average pupillary distance is around 63 mm in adults, but it varies from person to person. This measurement helps ensure the optical centres of your lenses align perfectly with your eyes.
